Why LayerOne Legal
In crypto, Layer 1 is the foundation, the base blockchain that everything else is built on.
It is the infrastructure that has to be right before anything else can work. Not glamorous, not always visible, but the thing that determines whether what sits on top of it holds. That's what LayerOne Legal is. Legal as infrastructure, not overhead.
Our founder has held the Chief Legal Officer chair at licensed and scaling crypto firms, not advised from the outside, but owned the position from within. He has advised on digital asset structures and fundraising, and navigated regulators across multiple jurisdictions. He knows what breaks at the base layer, because he has been there when it does.
Base layer decisions are the hardest to undo. Entity structure, regulatory position, year-one contracts: these compound. LayerOne Legal exists to make sure the foundation is right.

The Founder
Daniel Lo
Daniel Lo is a triple-qualified lawyer admitted in Canada (Ontario and Alberta), England & Wales, and the British Virgin Islands. Over a decade spanning M&A, private equity, offshore funds, and digital assets across private practice at Dentons and Walkers, and in-house roles at RBC Capital Markets, UBS, Nan Fung Group and Cake Group.
He previously co-founded LDU, a startup-focused legal consultancy, and currently serves as Managing Director, Chief Legal Officer and Chief Risk Officer at Acheron Trading, a licensed crypto market maker, bringing live C-level experience to every client engagement.
Daniel is an experienced board director, having sat on the boards of regulated financial entities and been vetted and approved by financial regulators including the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and the Autoriteit Financiële Markten (AFM) in the Netherlands.
Good legal counsel should feel like a business partner. Responsive, commercial, and accountable to the real-world consequences of every decision.
A board member of ACCESS Singapore and former member of the SFA's Web3 Subcommittee. He holds a Master of Laws in Corporate Law & Securities Regulation (University of Toronto), Bachelor of Laws (University of Birmingham), and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science (University of Toronto).
